Oh, I'm so glad the characterization worked for you. I loved what we learned about Mary in the ep, but it was hard to see how this John Winchester fit in with the warrior we'd come to know (especially since he had already been to Vietnam).

I talked about this with meiou_set a while ago, who was bothered more by it than I was at the time, and I tried to find possible whys, defending the script ... When I began writing this and got into this darker Mary, thinking about the kind of man she'd be drawn to and who'd be drawn to her, it just came together.

Sorry for rambling; I'm just happy you like the story and that you were able to see similarities to Sam and Dean, even though they didn't feature at all.
